REPLACEMENT DWELLING

Brief

This property allowed us to take advantage of a recently introduced planning policy where the location of a former property could be re-constructed within designated green belt land.

Our brief was to create a large family home, using stone and timber cladding to pay homage to the house that once stood, but adding a contemporary twist.

The Solution

The client wanted a large open plan family living space, which meant their children could play inside and out and be seen whilst they relaxed in the property.

Our building designs incorporated a large open plan kitchen, living and dining area, which opened out onto the rear garden area. Large glass panels to the front of the property create the feeling of space, merging the inside with the outside gardens, creating a combined family environment.

Open gallery areas and large roof lights allowed the light to flow around the house. We introduced stepped areas within the ground floor to create interesting lines and dedicated spaces within an open plan structure.

To keep the layout fun we included two storey glazed walkway and a chimney that featured a half open plan stone structure with glazed roof light above, adding an interesting and accessible space.
